Busy Busy Busy

All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.

This school thing is tougher than I thought it would be. They say that if you can make it through first year you can make it through anything. I hope they're right, for my sake. Some of the most monotonous and tedious things can be set upon one in first year. I hope these years get better and I enjoy myself more. First year has been difficult, a test of myself and I have a few more weeks until I pass this test, but not with flying colors. Post secondary can be hell at times. I suppose it's a necessary trial, but it's not 'fun,' in the typical sense of the word. School is no longer a game that can be viewed from above. Now, I seem to find myself one of the pieces of someone else's game. The view from the floor of the board is not as pleasing as the one the player receives.

One is simply not cut out for this. One is molded in the process.

There's Still life in the Old Lady Yet!

Merciful Death, how you Love your Precious Guilt

For hours I walked, I hadn't been back for years. But, I found myself standing. Barley without an upward glace I had come back to this spot.

You may feel like poet but you sound like an idiot...

Work Work Work

Zug Zug...

Yes, that's right, I pulled out all the stops with the Warcraft II quote. So, I'm at work, alone as usual, wondering about all the things that people wonder about when they're alone at work. It's a nice day though, so I think I'll go to bed when I get home and wait for the nice night to come...

Walking

So I was walking alone in a park in the dark...

Well, that's not how this story actually starts.

I was smoking, alone, out front of the cafeteria. I watched as Liam, a co-worker of mine, busily worked away at some massive decorating project, for some event coming fast on the horizon. I wasn't alone for long, though, as another man came out the doors and silently lit up his cigarette. He was quiet and he went for a walk around the islands of industrious looking metal and concrete structures coming out of the ground every few feet at Trent.

I was smoking a Black, a longer cigarette than most and so even as I started before him he was finished before me. He moved for the door and much to his surprise, though not to mine, it was locked. He sighed and he walked away on a roundabout trip around the college to find an open door on the other side of Symon's campus.

This is where my story starts, walking alone in the park in the dark...

I finished sometime later and after trying to get Liam's attention to come open a door for me, which he appeared far too busy to do, I began to walk in a counter clockwise direction, all around the college. I passed a staircase and in a brief moment of hope I went up to see if there was an open door or a pathway to the science complex where there might be an open door. I was wrong...

Reaching the peak of the stairs I saw the corrugated iron bars on top of a high concrete wall. Hoping the it would be faster to climb this and see what was up when I got there. I ignored all walls, gates good sense and so I climbed onto the rooftops of Trent. I had a great view, standing in two feet of snow in naught but ankle socks and skater shoes. It was really nice to see the river from the roof.

Such is my story, of walking alone at a park in the dark...

Ode to Des

Des took this. It's one of my favourite pics of me. It sounds like my ego is larger than life but i don't really like many pictures taken of me. This one is good...

Forgetfulness

The name of the author is the first to go
followed obediently by the title, the plot,
the heartbreaking conclusion, the entire novel
which suddenly becomes one you have never read,
never even heard of,

as if, one by one, the memories you used to harbor
decided to retire to the southern hemisphere of the brain,
to a little fishing village where there are no phones.

Long ago you kissed the names of the nine Muses goodbye
and watched the quadratic equation pack its bag,
and even now as you memorize the order of the planets,

something else is slipping away, a state flower perhaps,
the address of an uncle, the capital of Paraguay.

Whatever it is you are struggling to remember,
it is not poised on the tip of your tongue,
not even lurking in some obscure corner of your spleen.

It has floated away down a dark mythological river
whose name begins with an L as far as you can recall,
well on your own way to oblivion where you will join those
who have even forgotten how to swim and how to ride a bicycle.

No wonder you rise in the middle of the night
to look up the date of a famous battle in a book on war.
No wonder the moon in the window seems to have drifted
out of a love poem that you used to know by heart.

My big little Embarassing Moment

I just mistook a poster of Jesus for a poster of Che the revolutionary. I feel like a bit of an Idiot for talking before thinking and yeah, I'm an educated idiot.

Blue Skies for Everyone

Spit on the ground hold your breath
Try and scare yourself to death
Bury your bones under the dirt
Tear your heart out rip your shirt
Stomp your feet in disgust
Curse the gray sky if you must
But you'll find when you are done
They'll be blue skies for everyone

Drink your wine break your heart
Give up the race before you start
Drop your drawers roll around
Burn your house right to the ground
Go to sleep hit your head
Scream until your face is red
And you'll find when you are done
They'll be blue skies for everyone

Blue skies setting suns
Cherry pies bubblegum
Lullabies to come undone
Blue skies for everyone

So get right down on your luck
Spin your wheels until you're stuck
Wring the blood out let it dry
Stick a needle in your eye
Dry your tears and drop your drink
Let me tell you what I think
I think you'll find when you get done
They'll be blue skies for everyone

Robert Burns

O' thou my muse! Guid auld Scotch Drink
Inspire me, 'till I lisp an' Wink
To sing thy name...

O' Whisky! Should O' plays an' Pranks
Accept a Bardie's grateful thanks!

Tribute to the Queen of Hearts

The Queen of hearts and Alice spoke one day. They spoke, they jested and they played croquet with the penalty of death. Alice would lose and Alice would run.

Alice would run to the door, leading out of Neverland, the Queen at her heals but not gaining. At a point, Alice noticed that the door became no closer as she ran, nor did the Queen and her Aces gain on Alice. She saw the Cheshire Cat and asked, though short of breath, why the no one could win this race?

The cat, one step ahead of Alice, replied as coolly as ever, "you must run Alice, you must run as fast you possibly can just to stay in this race. You will never reach the door, no, no you will never reach the door, Alice. But if you are to slow your pace or goodness forbid, stop, you will be caught by the Queen. Always remember that you must run as fast as possible to keep your position in this race."
